Make up Day

Welp now I'm just sitting here in silence because guess what my maps are done so I have nothing else to do except write the blog.  This class we really didn't do anything interesting we sat, talked, and learned about each other.  Also, I did my math homework which means NO HOMEWORK THIS WEEKEND!  this is going to be one of those really rare weekends where I don't have to sit at my desk and either type or do math problems for 2 hours this weekend.  Yes I'm so ready for my weekend I'm going to Shucks park to help with field support for the Josh Hamer Tournament.  I feel horrible for what happened to that family they lost their son... Their son is something that they can't get back.  I just can't wait to support that family.  I am very excited so Im going to leave you here as I go and prepare the field for tomorrow. Have a good one

Where is Mr.Schick?

So for the first 15 minutes of class Mr. Schick went missing we thought he got kidnapped or something.  Suddenly Robert was teaching the class we learned a lot from Robert about Robert.  Mr. Schick don't go missing again please.  Anyway we made maps that were labeled with the Equator, Prime Meridian, Nation of origin, Tropic of cancer, tropic of Capricorn, all the oceans, the 7 continents, and label John Carroll.  It was a lot of fun we talked to friends and made maps 2 of my favorite things to do.  It would have been better if there was some music.  One thing to tell you all just saying that Congrats to Austin Shorts and Mark for winning the election for president and vice President make us proud and good luck.  Well too much fun in one class can make you tired ill see you tomorrow.  Have a good one.

Distorted I think so...

So today we found out all of our lives were a lie.  The map we have been looking at forever if fake and none of it is real.  Just kidding but we did find out that maps are distorted because the Earth is a sphere and all these maps are flat.  The lines that appear as a graph on flat maps are not accurate.  Look at it this way in the middle of the map all the way across it is 22,000 miles but on the top of the map all the way across it is also 22,000 miles but on the Earth and on globes that is not accurate.  That is the distortion of maps that we all have been fooled about. So I wanted to personally thank Mr. Schick for showing me that my childhood was a complete waste of time and my mind is now officially blown.  Today was a weird one so now I can't wait for what tomorrow brings.  Ill see you next time.

West Wing Clip

I just rewatched the formal introduction of the Peters map to the president's assistants in the West Wing clip.  In this clip they explained how the Peters world map is so much more accurate than any other map we know of.  The big differences we noticed were the size differences between Greenland and Africa,  It appears Greenland is like half of Africa meanwhile mathematically Africa is 14 times bigger than Green land which is what it shows on the Peters world map.  Another difference that was spotted was the size of Alaska to the United states on The World map it appears that Africa is as big as the United states meanwhile that is in fact incorrect.  The United states on the Peters World Map is much bigger than Alaska.  These are the reasons the clip from West Wing was arguing the Peters World Map be used in schools in the United States from now on.  Mr. Schick I hope you had fun on your field trip because i know we had fun watching the West wing Peters world map segment many times on repeat.  Have a good one and I'll see you next time.

Test Review

Sorry for the gap day I got sick on Friday and most of the weekend.  But we took a Test today and personally I thought it was really easy.  The multiple choice was easy and the short answers where the same.  I studied a bunch for it and I think I did well on multiple choice and short answer but the essay I think I did great on.  It was flowing very well and had many details from the history of socrates that were very interesting.  We had a great 10 minute conversation on the clock on the wall moving at the speed of light.  It was 5pm for like a minute than 9pm the minute after it was pretty weird.  But the best part of class was the new prayer we learned about test days.  Ill see you next time have a good one. Oh and one more thing be like Socrates take your punishments when given don't try to. get out of it because you don't like it.

Socrates is not a Jail-breaker

If you were to be put in prison and told "Oh, so we are going to make drink a potion so you slowly suffocate and die sound good?"  Of course he said no... oh wait he said ok sure.  Just kidding Socrates  was sentenced to death by drinking a potion called Hemlock which slowly shuts down your central nerve system and kills you eventually.  He took the sentence but days while in jail his friends tried to break him out (The jail guards were in on it) but he refused to leave and he drank the potion right in front of them.  He slowly died and it was a slow and painful death not only for him but his friends to to watch him just die.  My question is how did Socrates have the strength to not leave and practically kill himself?  That is my question.  Well, thats the end of todays blog see you all next time.

Knowledge of Knowledge

Again with the excellence or arete.  But this time we went in depth and really discussed the greek places of politics like the agora the meeting place for all government meetings.  We also discussed the great Greek Socrates.  He was a classic greek philosopher who was a stonemason at a young age.   He was poisoned by drinking Hemlock.   Not only did we talk about Greek meanings of things we talked about us being the upper end on the knowledge scale of living things.  For example Dogs don't understand that one day they will die and they need to live the life to the fullest.  They think life goes on forever until their sick and they know its near end.  But us as humans we know one day we will die and we need to live life to the fullest which brings us to arete or excellence.  A Message To Garcia  is a perfect comparison to this because you need to live life the best you can not just to the standards exceed the standards.

Excellence

Hope you all had a good weekend, Today in class we talked about excellence in todays world and referencing to A message to Garcia.  A message to Garcia taught us to be the best at what we do.  Arete is another thing we talked about today the Greek word for excellence or greatness toward something.  Rowan was the man who tried to deliver the letter to Garcia the Spokesmen of Cuba.  Garcia was arete and Rowan was a slacker in life.  This shows why yet again A Message To Garcia is a great novel/essay to read for learning life lessons and discipline.  One more thing this small novel that was written by Elbert Hubbard a small author that had this essay/novel sell more than 40 million copies from history to today isn't that amazing. Have A good one its been real. And remember don't slack work as hard as you can.

A Message To Garcia

Its another day which means another Blog post on Demetri's Human Geo post.  Today on our post we will be reflecting on the novel/essay written by Elbert Hubbard called A message to Garcia.  This writing piece is trying to make the people who just want to live life where life takes them and show them that you need to work your butt off to get where you want in life.  This shows me the point of view of others to see what their standards are for us as we grow. This makes me feel like I need to work harder than I am to succeed.  This essay is a great learning experience for me and I’m going to say everyone who reads this.  In this world if you are doing a profession don’t you want to be the best at that profession that is one of the points this essay is getting crossed along with the other points I stated above.  I’m conclusion I believe this should be read by every student my age or that is in my grade.  Nice choice Mr. Schick

My First Few Days at John Carroll

So far John Carroll has provided me with the best school atmosphere and schedule that I have ever experienced. The freedom is unbelievable especially the off mods.  They give you a chance to study ahead of time before sports in the afternoon or if you have just a busy afternoon.  The teachers at John Carroll are also very good they are very thorough on how they teach all subjects which is going to help me I like thorough learning. Not just the academics are great at John Carroll the sport atmosphere at away games or championships are great. The students really get into it just like the students at the University of Maryland where I’ve spent most of my life growing up a big Maryland fan.  John Carroll really puts across a college typed feeling which is my favorite part of John Carroll. The first few days have been great I can’t wait for the rest.
